Rehabilitation of the pelvic floor

A large number of men and women do exercises to tone the muscles of their body.  The perineum is a muscle.  It must therefore be looked after to make sure that it remains fit and in certain cases to retone it so as to resorb pain and incontinence that alter daily life.

The different rehabilitation methods for the pelvic floor help regain a feeling of fulfilment and comfort.

In women

Post-natal rehabilitation (code ZK 82)
After an initial assessment, the sessions comprises exercises to retone the abdominal and perineal muscles by different techniques.

Uro-gynaecological rehabilitation (code ZK 81)
Depending on the results of the initial assessment, rehabilitation will be geared to endurance or more towards the force of contraction.  An internal sensor is used to stimulate the perineum to feel the contraction and to reinforce the deficient muscles (electrostimulation phase).  The patient must then cause a contraction of the perineum (Biofeedback phase), the force profile of which is displayed on a screen.  Furthermore, the rehabilitation is to be completed with exercises at home.

Applied in case of:

  • Stress urinary incontinence, mixed incontinence, bladder instability
  • Post-partum, prolapse of a pelvic organ (bladder, uterus, rectum).

In men

Sphincter failure in men (code ZK 83)

Ano-rectal rehabilitation with biofeedback (code ZK 87)
Depending on the results of the initial assessment, rehabilitation will be geared to endurance or more towards the force of contraction.  An internal sensor is used to stimulate the perineum to feel the contraction and to reinforce the deficient muscles (electrostimulation phase).  The patient must then cause a contraction of the perineum (Biofeedback phase), the force profile of which is displayed on a screen.  Furthermore, the rehabilitation is to be completed with exercises at home.

Applied in case of:

  • Male urinary incontinence following an ablation of the prostate, uretro-pelvic surgery or lower gastrointestinal surgery.
  • Faecal incontinence or constipation.
